Finally Clashing - The Ferocious Luffy vs. Kaidou

Kaidou's Bolo Breath erases Oden's castle, freezing Luffy, Hawkins, and Jack in disbelief. Enraged, Luffy leaps skyward and drives an Elephant Gun into the rampaging dragon's skull, sending him down. Having lived through the blast, Kiku and Kin'emon haul themselves upright; to his dismay, Kin'emon finds nothing but a smoking crater where the castle once stood. He makes for the town in case the dragon stirs and runs wild again, while Kiku climbs the mountain to seek Momonosuke and the other crew. Following the same path, Luffy instead stumbles on a gravely wounded Speed. She tells him Kaidou ambushed her as she was carrying Tama home and scorched them both. Believing the girl dead, a grieving Luffy roars the Emperor's name and rouses him once more.

The two collide almost instantly. A swing of Kaidou's tail hammers Luffy into the dirt, but he climbs back up, and in Tama's memory he batters the dragon with the Elephant Gatling Gun, a storm of enormous Haki-charged fists. The earlier Elephant Gun had already felled Kaidou once, and both Kin'emon and Kiku, surviving the destruction, split off to guard the town and search for Momonosuke as Luffy presses the duel.

The episode plays under OVER THE TOP. Added beats include Kaidou wrecking nearby buildings before Luffy's strike, Luffy pairing Gear Second with Gear Third, Speed being blown back by the Elephant Gun's impact, and Kin'emon clawing out of the ground to find Kiku behind a log before despairing over the lost castle, with Kiku urging him toward Okobore Town. The adaptation also has Luffy loose Supreme King Haki on three nearby Beasts Pirates while tending Speed, and shows how Kaidou struck her and Tama. A manga moment in which Luffy tosses Speed toward a Beasts Pirate is dropped, and the fight is extended with extra dodges and a tail hit.
