The World Pirates are an anime-original crew that terrorized the seas thirty years ago under Byrnndi World. Feared enough to provoke an alliance of Marines and rival pirates, the crew was undone by betrayal, only to reunite decades later for a final strike at the World Government.
Introduced in the special 3D2Y, the World Pirates are a crew exclusive to the anime, founded by Byrnndi World and infamous three decades before the present. Their flag shows a skull in a horned white helmet sporting a yellow mustache shaped like a "W," ringed by a dim purple circle and crossed bones.
At their height the World Pirates were a genuine terror, their captain doubling as both their strongest fighter and a future inmate of Impel Down's deepest level. Their rampage spared no one, striking pirates, Marines, and even World Nobles, which pushed the government to broker an alliance between the Marines and pirates who bore World a grudge. By the present day the threat warranted summoning all seven Warlords. The crew's officers could wreck a warship in under a minute, and World alone could destroy two warships and a Noble's frigate in seconds.
Their vessel, the Groseade, is a colossal submersible disguised as an island, built during World's imprisonment to evade the Marines. It mounts a cannon capable of leveling an island from thousands of kilometers away, a feat otherwise reserved for the Ancient Weapons, and could menace Mary Geoise when paired with World's Devil Fruit. Dracule Mihawk and the Marines eventually destroyed it.
Byrnndi World and his brother Byojack started the crew in pursuit of freedom and adventure, only to be betrayed when their own subordinates, manipulated by Cipher Pol, turned and shot their captain. World was hauled to Impel Down's Level 6 while the rest hid and built the Groseade. He broke free thirty years later during the mass escape orchestrated by the Blackbeard Pirates, reunited with his crew, and set out to destroy Mary Geoise. The plan collapsed when Monkey D. Luffy and Boa Hancock defeated the crew, including the shipwright Gairam and the members Sebastian and Nightin.
