Karakuri Rasento is the mechanized blade carried by the Beasts Pirates headliner Sasaki. Sheathed it passes for an ordinary broad sword, but a hidden mechanism makes its flaps fan out and spin, transforming the weapon into a whirling drill.
The name translates to something like trick-mechanism spiral sword, and it belongs to Sasaki of the Beasts Pirates. From outside it looks like a wide-bladed Japanese nandao, dressed with greenish-gray cord wrapping that leaves diamond gaps, gold fittings, a rectangular guard, tufted orange cords, and a matching sheath whose coloring shifts to blue in the anime. Its true nature only shows once the blade leaves the scabbard.
Drawn, the sword reveals a single-edged blade lined along one side with rows of smaller flap-blades set in diagonal segments, each bearing its own wavy temper line. When Sasaki engages the rotating mechanism, those flaps swing out perpendicular to the main edge and begin spinning at high speed, leaving the whole weapon shaped like a drill. That drilling spin amplifies the force behind his swings, letting him overpower General Franky in a clash and slice its Franken apart. He can also swing the blade while aloft in his half-triceratops form, granting him an aerial fighting option. His technique Heliceratops sees him dive from above on his propeller frills and rake an enemy with repeated diagonal cuts, first unleashed on the Gifters of his own Armored Division after Tama's power turned them against him.
Sasaki is the lone wielder of Karakuri Rasento. A fellow Beasts Pirates headliner, Holed'em, owns a separate mechanized blade he calls Karakuri-to, though its abilities remain largely unknown beyond the whip-like stretching the anime grants it.

When I first decided to commit to watching One Piece seriously, I knew I was embarking on one of anime's longest and most beloved series. With over 100...

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....
The Karakuri Rasento is the mechanized sword carried by Beasts Pirates headliner Sasaki, which looks like an ordinary broad-bladed nandao while sheathed but transforms into a whirling drill once drawn.
Once Sasaki draws the Karakuri Rasento, rows of small flap-blades along its edge swing out perpendicular to the blade and spin rapidly, turning the whole weapon into a drill shape. This spinning motion amplifies the force of his swings, letting him overpower opponents like General Franky.
Sasaki's signature technique is Heliceratops, in which he dives from above on his propeller frills in his half-triceratops form and rakes an enemy with repeated diagonal cuts using the Karakuri Rasento.
Karakuri Rasento roughly translates to trick-mechanism spiral sword, referring to the hidden mechanism that makes its flap-blades fan out and spin once the weapon is drawn from its sheath.
Fellow Beasts Pirates headliner Holed'em owns a similar mechanized blade called the Karakuri-to, though it functions as a whip rather than the drill-like Karakuri Rasento wielded by Sasaki.
