Appearance

What instantly marks Holed'em out is the lion that erupts from his torso, its head, front legs, and tail all jutting from his waist thanks to an artificial SMILE fruit; this beast carries the name Kamijiro. The man himself stands tall, going shirtless to expose a hairy chest, with sun-shaped tattoos circling each upper arm, every emblem cradling a wrench design at its heart. His long brown hair sits over a square jaw, a pointed nose, cat-like whiskers, and lips dark enough to look painted.

Below the waist he wears dark trousers, gloves, light brown boots, and a tall dark cap stamped with a crest. A belt loops around the lion's jutting head and limbs to hold the creature snug against him.

Personality

Gruff and abrupt, Holed'em treats his duties seriously and has no tolerance for subordinates who irk him, snapping at them loudly. Empathy scarcely touches him: he set out to force Tama's taming power from her and turned gleeful as he threatened to tear the child apart. As with the rest of his crew, he sneers at Wano's commoners, and he readily belittles others even after hearing of their exploits, chalking Luffy's win over Urashima up to nothing but luck.

He jumps to conclusions fast, tagging Luffy, Zoro, and Kikunojo as cohorts of the bandit Shutenmaru off a single display of strength. He is also one to nurse a grudge, since a chief reason he went after Luffy was the destruction of his house. He laughs with a booming Gahahaha.

History

Born thirty years back in Wano to a self-proclaimed shaman named Norinosuke, Holed'em later joined Kaidou's crew, climbed to Shinuchi, and drew an assignment in Kuri under Jack's command, a rank that lets him direct lower members. His SMILE produces Kamijiro, the lion bursting from his stomach, whose paws and jaws pack tremendous force; the trouble is that the beast has its own mind and frequently turns on him, and since the two share a single body, any harm it suffers wounds him too. Kamijiro can also spew a wide jet of flame, an attack named Lion Fire. For a weapon Holed'em carries a long star-guarded blade he dubs the Karakuri Sword, which the anime shows breaking apart into a flaming whip.

After Gazelleman grabbed Tama and reported capturing the girl who had tamed their baboon, Holed'em told him to deliver her to his Bakura Town quarters. Suspecting some hidden Devil Fruit ability behind her denials, he called for pliers to yank the supposed food from her cheek, only for Kamijiro to strike him in the groin mid-task. As he tugged at her, news came that the sumo champion Urashima had been sent flying, and seconds later Urashima smashed into his home, hurled there by Monkey D. Luffy. Furious, Holed'em shoved Tama between Kamijiro's jaws and threatened to crush her.

Once he accused Luffy's party of running with Shutenmaru, Luffy struck Kamijiro in a blink and freed Tama. Holed'em had the lion breathe fire and raised the Karakuri Sword, but the flames did nothing, and a Haki-charged Red Hawk punch to the face knocked him out before he could cut. Coming to later, he quaked at the sight of Kaidou and was stunned to watch his captain wreck Kuri Castle. In the days after, he ordered Mt. Atama torched to kill Shutenmaru, followed broadcasts of the Flower Capital including Yasuie's execution, and burned Okobore Town once its people shouldered the blame for thefts. Following Kaidou and Orochi's collapse, he relocated to Udon and ambushed Speed, seizing Tama again, but the girl, now trained by Shinobu, broke loose and booted him square in the face before the group bound him and made him guide everyone to the secret hideout belonging to Who's-Who.
