Chapter 1047

Yamato pushes Momonosuke to conjure large flame clouds, but the boy protests it is far harder than it sounds. He recalls the day his home fell, when his mother Kouzuki Toki urged him to flee into the future; he had refused to leave without her and his sister until Kin'emon reminded him that in Wano a great failure is paid with one's life, so he could not doubt his mother's resolve. Insisting he was only a child, Momonosuke heard Kin'emon plead, through tears, for another chance to fight rather than a shameful death by fire. Reluctantly he had left his mother behind, and in the present that memory restores his conviction to keep straining against the island.

On the roof Luffy hurls a captured lightning bolt with Gomu Gomu no Kaminari, but Kaidou sidesteps and swats him away; Luffy grabs another bolt and swings back with an inflated leg. Kaidou dodges, strikes his head, and argues that raw Devil Fruit strength cannot rule the seas, pointing out that Roger held no such power yet became Pirate King. The one thing that truly matters, he declares, is Haki. He injures Luffy with a thunderous strike, yet Luffy hauls him skyward; Kaidou shifts to full dragon form and blasts him, conceding that even awakened he remains weak to slashing attacks, then drives him off with another Bolo Breath.

Below, Hyougoro hears the island is dropping because Kaidou is spent, and asks the samurai which they prefer: Luffy winning and the island perhaps crushing them all, or Kaidou winning and prolonging their servitude a little longer. The samurai gladly accept death so the innocent may live, cheering Luffy on. Usopp and Hamlet, fleeing the blaze, are swept up and saved by Raizo's water. In the treasury Orochi pries out the Seastone nail, transforms even while burning, and, reduced to a single head, vows to drag Hiyori down with him. On the roof, Luffy reveals a hand swollen to rival Onigashima itself, coated in Haki, and tells Momonosuke to move the island clear.
