Chapter 147: Downright Lie

In Bighorn, the long-cowed Isshi-20 finally resolve to abandon Wapol and free Dalton. Usopp reassures Vivi that Luffy and Sanji can fend for themselves. When the gravely weakened Dalton insists on rising to fight his old king, Usopp, who moments earlier dreaded the climb, is so moved by the man's resolve that he offers to carry him up the mountain on his back.

At the castle, Wapol puts his Devil Fruit on grotesque display, swallowing cannons and explosives to remake his body into a walking cannon-house, then devouring Chess and Kuromarimo and fusing them into a single combined warrior, Chessmarimo. To prove he means to retake his throne, he fires on Hiriluk's flag. Chopper charges in fury but holds back out of respect for his late mentor's wishes, and Wapol seizes the chance to shoot the trusting reindeer. Above them, Luffy scales the spire to raise the pirate banner over the castle.

The Isshi-20 rebel and rescue Dalton, breaking from Wapol at last. Wapol demonstrates that the Baku Baku no Mi lets him become anything he has eaten, turning his own body into weaponry. He combines Chess and Kuromarimo into the unified fighter Chessmarimo. Chopper, bound by Hiriluk's pacifism, refuses to strike and is shot for it.

The chapter uses a color spread cover instead of the Jango serial, showing the Straw Hats sprinting along a beach as Sanji and Nami chase Luffy's flying hat while a bird-like Sea King watches. Color Walk 2 notes the Spanish caption was meant to read across the sea, though its grammar is off. Zoro appears in the cast for this installment.
