Chapter 495

Sanji and Duval bicker over why Duval's hairstyle and features mirror the sketch on Sanji's bounty poster, the rest of the crew marveling at the resemblance. Sanji suggests Duval simply change his look. Duval recounts how the poster forced him to flee the Marines, blaming Sanji's crew and ship for making Sanji a famous pirate, and vows revenge. He opens fire with poisoned harpoons, which Sanji dodges once he recognizes the toxin, but two Riders ensnare him in a steel net and haul him beneath the waves. Luffy moves to help and Zoro stops him, so Hatchan dives in instead. Pappag notes that flying fish rank among the sea's fastest creatures, surpassed only by merfolk, and Camie plunges in to save Sanji.

The Riders try to crush the Thousand Sunny and drown its Devil Fruit users by dropping a massive anchor, but Franky escapes with the ship's reverse maneuver, the Chicken Voyage. He then retaliates with the Gaon Cannon, blasting away nearly all the Riders along with some of the surrounding structures. Franky explains the weapon channels two barrels of Coup de Burst through a third stabilizing barrel, burning roughly a ton of cola, and warns against overusing it. Underwater, Camie binds the two Riders and surfaces with Sanji, who is fine apart from a nosebleed. Duval charges on Motobaro, boasting of the bison's destructive horn, but Luffy halts the beast with an unfamiliar force that turns out to be Conqueror's Haki, sending it fleeing before it faints. Duval attacks alone, and Sanji evades the harpoons before finishing him with Parage Shot, a brutal cosmetic operation on Duval's face.

The cover continues the CP9's Independent Report, showing the agents escaping Enies Lobby on foot along the Sea Train tracks, the badly hurt Lucci and Kaku carried by the others. In the main story, Pappag establishes that mermaids are the fastest swimmers in the sea, Franky details how the Gaon Cannon works, and Luffy stops Motobaro using a then-unidentified power later confirmed as Conqueror's Haki. Sanji closes the fight with his Parage Shot. The chapter corresponds to Episode 389.
