Buggy and Mr. 3 push their rebellion up to Level 1 and aim for the prison's main gate, while on Level 3 Luffy's band keeps scrambling clear of Magellan's poisonous Hydra. Jinbe lays out the stakes for Luffy, explaining that the facility sits ringed by Marine vessels and that hijacking one would carry them to Marineford before Ace dies, with roughly four and a half hours left on the clock. Reaching the staircase to Level 2, Ivankov herds the last of the prisoners and Newkamas upward, then turns to face the pursuing warden alone.

Inazuma carves the stairway apart with his cutting power, sealing Ivankov off on Level 3 so the others can flee, and silently wishes him well. Magellan questions what the Revolutionary hopes to accomplish, and Ivankov retaliates by blasting a hole clean through the Hydra with his Newkama techniques. The duel does not end in his favor. Magellan emerges through the rubble using Venom Road, bloodied but standing, while both Ivankov and Inazuma are left collapsed in spreading pools of poison.

Ivankov and Inazuma both go down at Magellan's hands after buying time for the escapees. Sadi recovers and sends the four Jailer Beasts toward Level 1, where they corner Buggy's group before Luffy and Jinbe defeat the beasts once again. The separate breakout factions finally merge into a single surge of prisoners climbing from Level 2.

When Magellan catches up to the reunited crowd and forces everyone forward, Mr. 3 throws up a Candle Wall to halt the Hydra, shocking both Luffy and the warden. Mr. 3 declares he will hold the warden back briefly and urges Luffy onward, refusing to remain in his debt after Luffy treated him as a friend.

The cover continues the Straw Hat separation serial with Robin's storyline, showing her clutching keys in her mouth while ducking out of sight from guards as her ordeal at Tequila Wolf begins. Jinbe overhears Magellan order the surrounding Marine warships to pull away from the prison, a development that worries him more than the warden himself. The chapter underlines that the Doru Doru fruit can counter the Doku Doku fruit in combat, a matchup Crocodile finds remarkable.
