Chapter 640

Still raging under the steroid's effects, Wadatsumi battles Jinbe and Sanji as Nami unleashes Black Ball: Raiun Rod, a chemistry-driven attack that scatters her attackers. Zeo, recalling Sanji's slip that Nami is the crew's weak point, turns invisible to pin her ankles while Ikaros Much lunges with a spear, but Brook appears, takes both the thrust and a slap from Nami, and is unharmed because his dried-up body has nothing to pierce. General Franky then punches Ikaros across the field, locking their matchup, while Zeo becomes visible and faces off against Brook.

Underground, Daruma hunts Chopper and collapses the earth around everyone. When Dosun moves on a seemingly lone Usopp, Chopper sniffs him out and warns Usopp to duck before striking with Horn Cannon Elf, and Usopp drops a Pop Green into the tunnel, an explosion that recalls his Arabasta tactics against Miss Merry Christmas and blasts Daruma into the open. The matchups settle as Daruma versus Usopp and Dosun versus Chopper. Outside the island, Shirahoshi keeps drawing Noah away as Hody taunts Luffy. The princes warn what Decken's death would mean, and Hody slashes Ryuboshi while admitting he wanted the ability to expire out here. Luffy grabs Hody but the seawater saps his strength, letting Hody break free. Inside Noah, a cursing Decken topples over, knocks his head, and passes out, sending the ark falling back toward Fish-Man Island.

The chapter cements four officer matchups: Franky versus Ikaros Much, Brook versus Zeo, Usopp versus Daruma, and Chopper versus Dosun. Several Straw Hats reveal new attacks. Decken is shown to still be alive but faints, causing Noah to plunge back toward the island. Usopp and Chopper's underground-and-surface combo deliberately echoes their Arabasta fight.

The cover brings back Vivi at age eighteen with Karoo and Matsuge. Luffy adopts a new nickname for Fukaboshi, "Brotherhoshi." A drawing error left Zoro's left eye partly open in one close-up panel, later fixed in the tankobon. For the second chapter running, a swordsman of the crew accidentally rescues a female member, Brook earlier and Zoro here, neither actually trying to save them.
