At eight he ran tall for his years, level in height with Sabo despite a two-year age gap. His clothing combined a frill-fronted shirt with suspenders and a bow-tie, and a dimpled grin appeared often beneath a round, bowl-cropped head set with a slim, flat nose. Adulthood stretched him considerably taller yet left the haircut untouched. The grown Sterry wears a sash-trailing jacket over another ruffled shirt, frills perched on his shoulders, a tall collar, and a crown atop his head.

Like the rest of Goa's aristocracy he treats anyone of lower rank with scorn, calling such people trash, a slur he aimed even at Sabo after parroting his parents' words. Adulthood found him no kinder, complaining of his plush Loguetown rooms and snapping at the Marine hero Garp simply for being a subject of his realm. Tutors and guardians once called him clever by noble measure, yet he stays remarkably ignorant of the world, his views on other races rooted in racist hearsay. He writes off fish-men and merfolk as fish that spread sickness, and took Neptune for a human-devouring giant whose spit could melt rock. Bravery is not his strength either, since he sobbed when Sabo threatened him, shrank from crows passing his bondola, and mistook a travelator for a quake, traits that likely feed his stammer. His appetite for power stays plain, openly quizzing Garp about reaching World Noble status and eyeing the forbidden Empty Throne, and a lustful streak surfaced when he fawned over a photo of Nefertari Vivi with his wife at his side.

Once his birth parents could no longer keep him, the eight-year-old, judged full of promise, entered the home of Outlook III and Didit. After their father dragged a runaway Sabo back from the Gray Terminal, Sterry introduced himself, then slipped into Sabo's room to jeer and let slip that nobles meant to burn the slum down before a World Noble arrived. Sabo grabbed him to wring out the plan and sprang through the window while Sterry stared in shock. In later years he married Princess Sarie Nantokanette and ascended Goa's throne after the suspicious deaths of its king and prince. With the Levely approaching he traveled to attend, was rebuffed when he tried to boss Garp at the Red Port, met the Fish-Man Island royals with dread, and saw a giant erupt from the cliff during his Bondola ride while crows unnerved him. Atop the Red Line he looked down on Neptune's family for declining the travelator, then pledged before the Empty Throne while quietly wishing to sit on it. Once the gathering ended he ogled Vivi's photograph to his wife's anger, and on the voyage back a newspaper stunned him with word that his adopted sibling had broken into Mary Geoise during the event.
