A cheerful teenage half-human raised in the Sunlit Garden, Shio Ihei serves in Kishou Arima's elite squad before defecting to guard Ken Kaneki, wielding a quinque with skill that reaches far beyond his young years.
Shio was a young boy with short white hair, a fringe swept to the right and a pair of loose strands hanging beside his face. Bright yellow-green eyes gave him a spirited look, and he usually wore the white trench coat that marked his squad.
Despite a severe upbringing, he stayed lively and playful, and of the three members in his unit he was easily the chattiest and most outgoing.

Naruto vs Luffy with the twist nobody asked for: Luffy tickled Hinata on date night, and she kind of liked it. We break down the whole fight and commit to a winner....

There are no women on Namek. That isn't an oversight, it's the biology. Why we handed Piccolo the one thing his own species rules out, and why it had to be trap soul....
Little of Shio's early years is documented beyond his selection as one of the half-humans molded within the Sunlit Garden into skilled investigators. Assigned to guard Cochlea, he and the rest of Squad Zero came upon Kaneki standing over Arima's body, and once allowed to bid their mentor farewell, the squad gathered to grieve. They then trailed Kaneki deeper into the prison, found a gravely wounded Eto Yoshimura, and stepped in to break up the clash between Kiyoko Aura and Mougan Tanakamaru and the group led by Touka and Ayato Kirishima. Afterward the squad threw in with Kaneki, attending the gathering where he announced the founding of Goat.
When the CCG stormed Goat's base, Shio helped shield fleeing ghouls from Hajime Hazuki and Koori Ui; urged by Hirako to treat his opponent as a ghoul rather than a human, he fought on, but he and Rikai Souzu were both slain by Hajime, who carried their heads to Kaneki. As a half-human he possessed heightened physical ability and real talent with a quinque, having wiped out many ghouls despite being only fourteen, the highest tally among his trio of peers.
The anime grants him a longer life, showing him battle V and the taxidermied Owl and, six years past the Dragon War, sharing a coffee shop with Rikai and Yusa Arima.
