Irvine

In human shape Irvine is a black-haired man with pale white eyes, a hunter by trade who carries a bow. His released apostle form takes on a beastly, deer-like aspect, complete with horns and a tail, which Erica once compared to a stag.

Quiet and withdrawn, Irvine shows scant interest in the affairs of the reborn band beyond his lethal work on the field. Left to himself, he takes pleasure in hunting game, camping deep in the woods, and playing the lute beside his fire. For all that he is a demon, a gentle streak surfaces now and then, as when he lets Sonia warm herself at his campfire, chats with her kindly, and drapes his coat over her once she drifts off to sleep.

Irvine is a peerless archer. Even as a man he looses multiple arrows at once, striking several targets at varying distances with flawless aim and force enough to tear limbs apart, all at ranges no ordinary human could reach. His speed is likewise inhuman, letting him race across a battlefield and scale large structures with ease, as when he outpaces the Kushan advance at Vritannis and cuts down nearly all their generals. In his apostle form these gifts scale up dramatically: he spins needles from the hair of his tail into arrows that burst into thorny masses inside a target, and he lashes rope between his horns to fire them like a ballista. That power lets him fell monstrous foes, dropping a cockatrice with a single shot down its throat and helping bring down a hydra alongside Zodd and Grunbeld.
