Momo Hinamori

Momo has brown eyes and wears the standard shihakusho, her black hair drawn into a bun wrapped in a tied cloth and marked by the 5th Division's lieutenant band. Off duty, in a plain sleeping kimono, she lets it fall into a loose ponytail. As an academy student she wore the girls' red-and-white robes with her hair in low pigtails. In the seventeen months after Aizen's fall she switches to a clipped bob held by a side clip, and a decade past Yhwach's defeat she pins it up once more with bangs framing her face.

Generally cheerful, easygoing, and warm, Momo fills her free hours with reading and drawing, skilled enough to have overseen book illustrations at the academy; her fondness for peaches and dislike of plums are well documented. She shares a lifelong bond with Toshiro Hitsugaya, teasingly calling him Shiro-chan no matter his rank, though her rare flashes of anger can turn menacing. Above all she reveres Aizen, an attachment so deep that a forged letter from him drives her to attack her childhood friend, and even after he becomes an enemy of Soul Society she keeps addressing him as Captain Aizen.

Momo was raised in Junrinan, a district of Rukongai, growing up beside Toshiro Hitsugaya, whom she treated like a little brother. At the Shinigami Academy her talent for Kido stood out, and there she befriended Izuru Kira and Renji Abarai; a field exercise gone wrong saw the group rescued by Captain Aizen, the moment her idolization of him took root, and she later earned a place as his lieutenant. During the Soul Society arc, Aizen's faked death sends her reeling, and she attacks Gin Ichimaru before being restrained; a forged letter then turns her against Hitsugaya, and when she finally reunites with a living Aizen he stabs her through the chest. In the Fake Karakura Town arc she fights alongside Rangiku Matsumoto against Tier Harribel's Fraccion, weaving her Zanpakuto with a Kido net, only to be nearly killed by the beast Ayon and, later, tricked into taking Hitsugaya's blade through Aizen's hypnosis, after which she undergoes organ regeneration. Through the Thousand-Year Blood War she serves under her new captain, Shinji Hirako, battling the Wandenreich, guarded by Sajin Komamura, and tending the wounded. In combat she carries high spiritual power and passable swordsmanship, but her true strength is Kido, which she layers together and combines with her fire-type blade, Tobiume, a sword that releases exploding fireballs in its Shikai, along with some skill at healing Kaido.
