Inauguration! The Brand New 2nd Division Captain!

Oversleeping in the Rukongai forest, Ōmaeda tumbles off a cliff and lands atop a Hollow menacing a boy named Ryūzaburō. When the grateful child asks who he is, Ōmaeda blurts out that he is the Second Division captain, then shrugs off the lie as harmless. The villagers feast him as their hero, and Ryūzaburō and his friends soon idolize the imposter, even trailing him to the Seireitei to thank the captain who saved them.

Escorted in by Yoruichi and Ichigo, the boys greet Ōmaeda as a captain while he sweeps a courtyard, forcing him to keep up the charade. An amused Yoruichi plays along for fun, roping in Ikkaku, Yumichika, and Rangiku, until the deception collides with the real captain, Suì-Fēng. Once quietly informed of the ruse, she is manipulated into cleaning, cooking, and even massaging her own subordinate while the children watch in awe.

The truth slips out when the boys overhear complaints about Ōmaeda, and a disillusioned Ryūzaburō storms off, only to run into the very Hollow again. It reclaims its power through a ring the boy took, and Ōmaeda, realizing the children still see a captain in him, resumes the fight. Blinding the Hollow with Sekienton and jamming Gegetsuburi into its mouth, he slays it, earning genuine admiration before Suì-Fēng finally settles the score with him.

Ōmaeda impulsively claims to be the Second Division captain after saving Ryūzaburō. The village boys follow him to the Seireitei, where he must maintain the lie. Yoruichi and others play along, tricking Suì-Fēng into serving her own lieutenant. The boys discover the truth and Ryūzaburō runs into the Hollow again. Ōmaeda defeats the Hollow with Sekienton and Gegetsuburi, and Suì-Fēng confronts him afterward.

The episode is anime-original with no adapted chapters or arc. It features the Kidō spell Sekienton and Ōmaeda's Shikai, Gegetsuburi. A Picture Book segment has Yoruichi puppeteering Suì-Fēng into repeatedly striking and sparing Ōmaeda as payback for his impersonation.
