Historia de Pantera y su Sombras

Ichigo tears open Grimmjow's torso and believes the fight is decided, but the Espada seizes the blade of Tensa Zangetsu bare-handed and snarls that nothing has ended yet before renewing his assault. From here the chapter turns to the distant past and the nature of Hollow evolution itself.

A narrator explains that Gillians possess no individual self: masses of Hollows devour one another to fill the emptiness where a heart once was, blending together into towering giants of immense spiritual power. Rarely, one buried consciousness rises above the rest, granting the Gillian a will of its own and driving it to consume its fellows until it sharpens into an Adjuchas. In that stage, a lean panther-like Grimmjow is challenged by Di Roy, a huge worm-shaped Adjuchas who dismisses his small size and moves to eat him. Because Adjuchas who stop feeding risk sliding permanently back into their Gillian state, Grimmjow leaps up and bites a chunk out of Di Roy's head, landing before Shawlong, Edrad, Yylfordt, and Nakeem with the flesh still in his jaws.

Impressed, Shawlong trades names and offers Grimmjow a place among them, then kneels alongside the others. They mean to rise to the rank of Vasto Lorde rather than stall as Adjuchas, and they have decided that Grimmjow is the power that will carry them there, pledging to walk beside him as their king. Back in the present, Grimmjow drives a hand into Ichigo's side, and when Ichigo's defiant stare enrages him further, he skewers the other side as well. Vowing to crush anyone who looks down on him, whether Human, Shinigami, or Arrancar, Grimmjow kicks Ichigo skyward, appears above him, and conjures Desgarrón, five enormous energy talons hovering over each hand.

The origin of Grimmjow's followers is revealed: as an Adjuchas he devoured part of Di Roy and was recruited by Shawlong's group, who crowned him their king. The narration lays out the full progression from Gillian to Adjuchas toward Vasto Lorde. In the present, Grimmjow impales both of Ichigo's sides and unveils his ultimate technique, Desgarrón, setting up the fight's climax.

The Spanish chapter title translates as Story of the Panther and his Shadows. It was adapted in Episode 167, The Moment of Conclusion, the End of Grimmjow. The flashback gives Grimmjow the emotional backstory that colors his obsession with dominance over Ichigo.
