The series opener introduces Denji, a debt-ridden teenager who hunts Devils for the Yakuza alongside his chainsaw-bodied partner Pochita. Betrayed and killed by the mob, he fuses with the little Devil and is reborn as the monstrous Chainsaw Man.
Smitten with Makima, Denji reaches the Public Safety headquarters in Tokyo, brawls with his new partner Aki Hayakawa, and is finally paired off with the bloodthirsty Blood Fiend Power as part of an experimental Devil-hunting unit.
Power promises Denji a grope of her chest if he rescues her stolen cat Meowy, only to betray him to the Bat Devil. After both Power and Meowy are swallowed whole, Denji transforms into Chainsaw Man and tears the Devil apart.
The Leech Devil ambushes a weakened Denji until Aki's Fox Devil saves him. Aki buries Power's betrayal in exchange for Denji's obedience and takes Power in as a housemate, where she at last honors her promised reward.
The fifth Chainsaw Man episode sets Denji's deflating brush with desire against the origin of the monster he is sent to hunt. Makima dangles a single granted wish in exchange for slaying the Gun Devil, and a routine hotel sweep strands Division 4 inside a creature that warps the building's very geometry.
Trapped by the Eternity Devil's warped architecture, Division 4 realizes the hotel's eighth floor has become an inescapable loop where even time has stopped. The cornered creature offers a grim bargain for Denji's life, and the panic it feeds on begins tearing the team apart from within.
Denji's relentless, blood-soaked war against the Eternity Devil finally breaks the creature's will and frees Division 4. A celebratory drinking party follows, where a long-awaited kiss curdles into one of the most infamous first kisses in the entire series.
A tender, fumbling morning between Denji and Himeno gives way to coordinated slaughter. Gunmen strike across Tokyo and aboard Makima's train, while a sword-wielding hybrid tears into Division 4 and claims Himeno in a brutal escalation that opens the Katana Man arc.
Denji falls into enemy hands as the Katana Man overpowers him, but the supposedly slain Makima rises from her train unharmed. From a Kyoto shrine she unleashes a lethal, unseen power on his captors, while a shattered Kobeni mounts her own desperate rescue.
A grieving Aki is counseled toward quitting but refuses, while Denji and Power begin a brutal apprenticeship under the veteran Kishibe. Aki is then led before the caged Future Devil to seek a new pact.
Aki bonds with the Future Devil while Makima coerces the Yakuza boss into naming the Gun Devil's contractors. Public Safety then storms Katana Man's hideout, where Aki is cornered by Akane Sawatari and her summoned Ghost Devil.
Steeled by Himeno's final message, Aki slays the Ghost Devil and captures Akane, while Denji defeats Katana Man in their brutal rematch. The first season closes as a mysterious purple-haired stranger named Reze appears.
