The Sword of Hope's Final Strike

The Final Hope Slash is the culminating attack of Future Trunks's Sword of Hope, a massive energy blade formed from the hilt of his broken sword and powered by the collective ki of the surviving humans of his timeline. After creating the Sword of Hope, Trunks drives the blade straight through his opponent's body, then follows up with a decisive upward slash that cleaves them in two. The technique channels not just Trunks's own power but the desperate hope of every surviving person in his ravaged timeline, making it one of the most symbolically meaningful attacks in Dragon Ball Super.

Cutting Zamasu in Half

The Final Hope Slash served as the climax of the battle against Fused Zamasu. After absorbing the energy of Earth's remaining population into his Sword of Hope, Super Saiyan Rage Trunks charged at the deranged god. He drove the blade straight through Zamasu's midsection, the divine energy tearing through defenses that had withstood attacks from both Goku and Vegeta. Zamasu, utterly shocked that mortals would dare retaliate against his "justice," could only stare as Trunks declared that he did not care about Zamasu or his warped ideals. With a furious upward cut, Trunks split Zamasu in two, obliterating his physical form. Unfortunately, Zamasu's immortality and the corruption of his fused body allowed his essence to survive and spread across the sky as Infinite Zamasu, requiring Future Zeno's intervention to end the threat permanently.

Mortals Fighting Back

The Final Hope Slash represents something unique in Dragon Ball: a technique powered not by the user's individual strength but by the collective will of ordinary people. Trunks explicitly states this during the attack: "This is the power of mortals fighting for each other, the power of believing in something bigger than just you." It mirrors the Spirit Bomb conceptually, but where the Spirit Bomb gathers energy from nature and willing donors, the Sword of Hope formed spontaneously from the desperate prayers of an entire civilization. In the manga, Trunks used a similar bisecting strike to forcibly separate Goku Black and Future Zamasu after their botched defusion. The technique has become a signature move for Future Trunks in games like Xenoverse 2, where it appears as the Sword of Hope ultimate skill.
