Role in the Story

Chilled operates as a ruthless space pirate in an era long before Frieza's reign, commanding a force that plunders planets across the galaxy. His army targets Planet Plant, a world inhabited by a peaceful alien race. When Chilled's soldiers encounter resistance from a mysterious Saiyan warrior (Bardock, who has been transported back in time), they report back to their leader.

Chilled arrives on the planet personally to deal with the problem. He initially disguises himself as a benevolent visitor to get close to the locals, but his true nature is quickly revealed. When Chilled begins attacking the planet's inhabitants, Bardock confronts him. The pirate general dominates the fight at first, but when Chilled injures one of the locals that Bardock has grown attached to, the Saiyan's rage triggers a transformation into Super Saiyan.

The newly transformed Bardock overwhelms Chilled completely. Before dying from his wounds, Chilled warns his descendants to avoid anyone with golden, glowing hair. This dying message becomes the origin of the Frieza family's deep-seated fear of the legendary Super Saiyan, a paranoia that ultimately drives Frieza to destroy Planet Vegeta generations later.
