Goku visits the two Zenos at their palace and reminds them about holding a multi-universe martial arts tournament. The Grand Minister arrives at the Sacred World of the Kai to announce the Tournament of Power, where ten warriors from each universe will compete.
The two Zenos are bored, having tied at 101 wins apiece in their planet-destroying game. Meanwhile on Earth, Goku sells his harvested vegetables and is ambushed by roadside bandits, whom he dispatches effortlessly, though one bullet grazes his arm, reminding him that he has been neglecting his training. He calls Krillin, who is busy with police work, then arranges a session with Whis in exchange for bean daifuku.
At Capsule Corporation, Goku discovers that Bulma is visibly pregnant with her second child. Vegeta refuses to leave for training, determined to be present for the birth after missing Trunks's. Goku and Whis depart for Beerus's planet, where Goku raises the topic of Zeno's promised universal tournament. Beerus is horrified and warns Goku to stay away from the Omni-King, but Goku tricks him by tossing his Zeno button into the air and pressing it while Beerus is distracted.
At Zeno's Palace, Goku reminds the two Zenos about the tournament, which the present Zeno had forgotten and Future Zeno had never heard of. Both become excited, and the Grand Minister begins organizing the event. Goku returns to Universe 7, where Beerus punishes him for his recklessness. At the Sacred World of the Kai, the Grand Minister personally arrives to announce the details: ten warriors from each universe will fight in the Tournament of Power. The gravity of what Goku has set in motion is only beginning to become clear.
This episode perfectly encapsulates Goku's defining trait: his childlike excitement for battle overriding all caution. Beerus explicitly warns him that the Omni-King is not someone to be casually approached, yet Goku circumvents the God of Destruction with a simple trick. The fact that Zeno had forgotten about the tournament entirely means Goku did not simply accelerate an inevitable event; he actively caused it to happen.
Vegeta's refusal to train because of Bulma's pregnancy marks one of the most significant character moments of the entire series. The man who once cared about nothing but surpassing Goku now willingly falls behind to be present for his family. This contrast between Goku's relentless pursuit of combat and Vegeta's growing emotional maturity deepens both characters.
This episode debuts the new opening theme and visual style for the Universe Survival Saga, with Toei applying a post-production filter designed to evoke the cel animation of earlier Dragon Ball series. The saga officially begins here, transitioning from slice-of-life filler episodes into what becomes the largest-scale arc in Dragon Ball history.
Bulma's pregnancy is shown explicitly for the first time, and the second Zeno button function, allowing Goku to teleport to Zeno rather than summoning him, is revealed. Both details become significant as the saga progresses.
