Frieza's scouts destroy Kami's ship, stranding the heroes on Namek. Vegeta confronts Cui and reveals a shocking power increase, eliminating his old rival with contemptuous ease. Krillin and Gohan hide in a cave as Frieza's army sweeps toward the next village.
Two of Zarbon's scouts locate Krillin, Gohan, and Bulma and blast a hole through Kami's ship, eliminating any possibility of retreat. With no other option, Krillin and Gohan power up and swiftly defeat the scouts, though the victory is bittersweet as their only means of escape now lies in ruins. Zarbon's scouter detects the power spike, but since the readings only reached 1,500, Frieza dismisses them as a negligible threat.
The main event belongs to Vegeta. When Cui confronts him with smug confidence about their supposedly equal power levels, Vegeta reveals what he learned on Earth: the ability to suppress and raise his Ki at will. He powers up, shattering both Cui's and Zarbon's scouters when the reading exceeds 22,000. Dodoria's newer model scouter places Vegeta at 24,000, making him stronger than both of Frieza's top lieutenants individually.
Cui's composure collapses completely. He desperately proposes a truce, then resorts to the oldest trick in the book: telling Vegeta that Frieza is standing behind him. Vegeta actually turns to look, giving Cui an opening to unleash a volley of energy blasts. It accomplishes nothing. Vegeta reappears unharmed, slams his fist into Cui's gut, and detonates him in midair. The Saiyan prince then devises a strategy: hide one Dragon Ball where no one can find it, then steal the remaining six after Frieza collects them.
Vegeta's annihilation of Cui demonstrates a concept that becomes central to Dragon Ball Z: Saiyans grow dramatically stronger after recovering from near-death experiences. Vegeta was roughly equal to Cui before Earth. After being beaten to the brink of death and healing in a Medical Machine, his power has more than doubled. Cui never stood a chance.
The scene also establishes scouter dependency as a critical weakness of Frieza's forces. They cannot sense Ki naturally, relying entirely on technology that breaks under high readings. Vegeta's ability to suppress his power level makes him invisible to their instruments, giving him a significant tactical advantage that he exploits throughout the Namek Saga.
With their ship destroyed, Gohan and Krillin's mission shifts from retrieval to survival. They hide in a cave while Bulma sets up a Capsule Corporation house, establishing a makeshift base of operations. Krillin's quiet horror at sensing Frieza's power dwarfing Vegeta's gives the audience a clear measure of the threat level.
On Earth, Goku uses telekinesis to levitate water from a glass until Chi-Chi breaks his concentration, a small scene that hints at his growing mastery of energy control even while bedridden.
