An iconic blade carried by Future Trunks from his very first appearance, used to slice Frieza and King Cold in half and later channeled with ki energy to become the Sword of Hope.
Future Trunks' Sword is one of the most recognizable weapons in the Dragon Ball franchise. A sleek, single-edged blade carried in a scabbard on his back, it was the weapon Future Trunks used to make his unforgettable debut, effortlessly slicing Mecha Frieza into pieces and then dispatching King Cold moments later. The sword immediately established Future Trunks as a formidable warrior and became inseparable from his visual identity.
The blade is a finely crafted weapon forged by a master swordsmith. King Cold, impressed by its quality, theorized that Future Trunks' victory over Frieza was solely due to the sword's craftsmanship rather than his own strength. Cold asked to examine it, and Trunks obliged. When Cold attempted to use the sword against Trunks, he learned that the Saiyan warrior was equally deadly with or without a weapon.
The original sword was shattered during a confrontation with Android 18, who snapped the blade after catching it mid-swing. Despite the loss, Future Trunks continued fighting without it through the remainder of the Android and Cell sagas.
In Dragon Ball Super, Future Trunks returned with a new sword that played a pivotal role in the "Future" Trunks Saga. During his final confrontation with Fused Zamasu, the blade transformed into the Sword of Hope, a massive energy construct formed from the collective ki of Earth's remaining survivors channeled through the physical sword. This powered-up weapon was strong enough to bisect Fused Zamasu, representing one of the most emotionally charged moments in Dragon Ball Super.
The origins of Future Trunks' sword remain somewhat ambiguous. Some sources connect it to the Brave Sword given to the present-timeline Trunks by Tapion, while others describe them as separate weapons with similar designs. Future Trunks himself has mentioned that the sword was given to him by someone close to him, with some media identifying Future Gohan as the one who taught him swordsmanship.
