The signature orange gi of the Turtle School, designed by Master Roshi and worn by his students. It is the most recognizable outfit in Dragon Ball and has been worn by Goku, Krillin, Yamcha, and others throughout the franchise.
The Turtle School Uniform is a martial arts gi consisting of an orange top and pants, typically paired with a blue undershirt, blue wristbands, and blue boots (later versions use dark blue or black). The most distinctive feature is the kanji character printed on the back and sometimes the chest, which has changed over the course of the series to reflect different affiliations.
Master Roshi's students originally wore the "Kame" (turtle) kanji, representing the Turtle School. When Goku trained under King Kai, his uniform was modified to bear King Kai's symbol instead. Later variations featured Goku's own "Go" kanji or Whis's symbol during divine training in Dragon Ball Super. Despite these changes, the basic orange gi design has remained remarkably consistent from the very first World Martial Arts Tournament through Dragon Ball Super.
The uniform's most prominent wearers are Goku, Krillin, and Yamcha, all direct students of Master Roshi. Gohan, Goten, and Pan have also worn versions of the gi at various points, connecting three generations of the Son family to the Turtle School tradition. The gi was originally presented alongside weighted training elements like turtle shells, tying it to Roshi's philosophy that strength comes through enduring constant physical burden. It has become one of anime's most iconic outfits, instantly recognized worldwide.
