Goku and Mercenary Tao trade furious blows across the Sacred Land as the full power of Korin Tower training finally reveals itself. When Tao's Dodon Ray fails to break the boy, the assassin pulls a hidden blade from a capsule, forcing Upa to toss Goku his old Power Pole.
Tired of listening to Tao brag, Goku tells the hitman to stop running his mouth and attack. Tao obliges, but every strike is blocked cleanly, and a sharp kick snaps his head back. When the fight lifts into the air, Tao smashes Goku toward the tower, only to watch the boy kick off the stone and return the punch with interest. Goku rebounds off the ground and drives Tao headfirst into the dirt. Staggering back up with his shirt tattered, Tao tears it off entirely and claims he has been holding back the entire time.
Tao levels his finger and fires another Dodon Ray, certain this one will finish the job. Goku plants his feet and catches the attack with his bare hands. He slides back only a few yards, and apart from sore palms he is perfectly fine. Tao stares in shock as Goku points out the reversal, his Kamehameha failed last time, but this time the Dodon Ray is the attack that does nothing. On the Nimbus overhead, Upa cheers.
Rattled, Tao yanks a capsule from his waistband and pops out a long sword. He starts slashing wildly, and Goku is forced to weave frantically around each swing. Tao hacks clean through a tree Goku is gripping and grins at the sword's usefulness. Seeing his friend in danger, Upa sprints to his teepee, grabs the Nyoi-bo Goku left behind, and tosses the old weapon through the air. Goku snatches the Power Pole in midflight, touches down, and meets the next sword strike head on. A single crisp swing of the extending staff shatters the blade in half. Tossing the Nyoi-bo aside, Goku announces he will finish this fight with his bare hands.
