With the sword broken, the duel becomes a bare knuckle brawl at the base of Korin Tower. Tao Pai-pai seems to gain the upper hand before Goku unleashes a decisive counterattack, prompting the assassin to try one last dirty trick that backfires in explosive fashion.
Tao Pai-pai cannot believe the boy intends to fight the world's greatest assassin with nothing but his fists, but Goku simply tells him to come on. Tao launches a brutal flurry, punching Goku in the face, kicking him back, and hammering his gut with sharp body blows. He hoists the boy by the throat as Upa watches in panic, then kicks him into the sky, leaps after him, and drives him back into the ground with a crushing knee to the stomach. Standing over the crater, Tao laughs that the fight is finally over.
Goku climbs to his feet smiling and politely compliments the assassin's technique. Unnerved, Tao mutters that the kid is a freak. Goku announces that it is now his turn. In a blur he slams a crushing punch into Tao's gut, chops both sides of his neck, and kicks him square in the face hard enough to knock out a tooth. Desperate, Tao drops to his knees and begs for mercy, swearing he will give up his wicked ways. Goku hesitates and glances at Upa for guidance.
That flicker of doubt is all Tao needs. He hurls a concealed grenade at Goku and Upa, then rockets into the air to escape the blast. Goku reacts instantly, kicking the grenade straight back skyward while diving for cover. The explosive detonates right on top of its owner, and the sanctuary is rocked by a deafening blast. Goku and Upa cheer as the assassin finally falls. Strapping the Power Pole to his back, Goku tells Upa to stay put and renews his vow to gather every Dragon Ball and bring his father home.
