Look Out! The Dodon Blast!

Manga ChapterCh. 120

Krillin faces Chiaotzu, the tiny Crane School fighter who floats in the air and fires Dodon Rays from a single finger. When Goku reveals he killed Mercenary Tao, Master Shen orders Chiaotzu to finish Krillin immediately, and the bald monk counters by charging up a Kamehameha of his own.

Student of the Crane

The announcer introduces Krillin as a student of Master Roshi and Chiaotzu as a pupil of Roshi's rival, Master Shen. At the bell, Krillin drops into a fighting stance while the doll-faced Chiaotzu stands motionless, expression blank. Before Krillin can react, the little fighter glides across the tiles and boots him high into the air, then flies up to continue the attack. Krillin back-flips to the floor, rebounds off the stones, and rockets back at Chiaotzu, who drifts calmly out of reach before lowering himself back down. When Krillin vanishes with a burst of speed, Tien calls out a warning from outside the ring, but Chiaotzu hesitates trying to work out left from right and eats a solid punch to the face.

The Dodon Ray Appears

After taking a few more clean hits, Chiaotzu rises straight up into the sky. Jackie recognizes the ability as the Crane School's signature flight technique. Tien is impressed that the old man knows the name and sneers at him, prompting Goku to scold him about using rude language toward his elders. Back in the arena, Chiaotzu extends a single finger that flares with yellow light, then unleashes a Dodon Ray. Krillin barely dives clear, and Chiaotzu continues raining down blasts in a relentless barrage. Goku recognizes the technique from his fight with Mercenary Tao and says so, which stops Tien cold. After confirming that Goku really did take down Tao, Tien grows uncharacteristically thoughtful and walks off through the crowd.

An Order to Kill

Jackie reveals the real connection: Mercenary Tao is Master Shen's younger brother. Tien reaches Shen in the stands and delivers the news, and the old crane hermit is so stunned that he screams for Chiaotzu to eliminate the kid right now. Chiaotzu begins charging a truly massive Dodon Ray. Dodging no longer an option, Krillin plants his feet and starts his own Kamehameha, to the astonished delight of Jackie Chun.
