Arrival at the Lookout

Yajirobe questions Korin about the dangers that await Goku above the tower, while Goku asks whether God is a dangerous person. Korin assures him that he will be tested but expresses full confidence in Goku. Using his Power Pole, Goku launches himself skyward, and Korin muses that Goku will be quite shocked when he sees God's face. When Yajirobe asks if it is frightening, Korin says it is not frightening, just familiar.

The Power Pole extends higher and higher until Goku catches sight of the Lookout, an enormous structure shaped like the bottom half of a sphere, flat on top. The pole locks into a receiving connector, and Goku spots a ladder above him. He climbs up and emerges onto a vast tiled surface with beautifully maintained trees and a grand temple on the far side.

Meeting Mr. Popo

A dark-skinned figure with large eyes stands in the center of the platform. Goku asks if this person is God, and the figure introduces himself as Mr. Popo, God's servant. Popo praises Goku for defeating Piccolo Daimao, explaining that God sees all things. Goku spots the temple and announces he wants to go there. Popo asks for proof of Korin's approval, and Goku presents the small bell. Satisfied, Popo declares that Goku must defeat him in combat before he can visit God.

A Humbling Defeat

Goku opens with the Afterimage Technique, but Popo calmly throws a single punch that catches him squarely in the face. Goku charges again, claiming it will end in one hit, but Popo nonchalantly lands another blow, expressing disbelief that someone so weak defeated Piccolo Daimao. Furious, Goku gets serious.

Goku launches a kick, but Popo vanishes and reappears behind him with a counter-kick. After swinging around a tree, Goku flies back with another kick, but Popo catches his leg and hurls him across the tiles. Goku rushes in with a flurry of punches, all blocked effortlessly. He throws a sweeping strike, but Popo floats into the air above it and tells Goku that these tests are pointless, suggesting he should just go home.
