Goku and Piccolo arrive at the Spinach Wastes to confront Raditz, who has locked the crying Gohan inside his space pod. The Saiyan's scouter reveals alarming readings from the child, but Raditz dismisses them as a malfunction. When the two warriors shed their weighted training gear and power up, Raditz laughs them off and delivers a devastating opening strike.
Goku and Piccolo close in on Raditz's position using the Dragon Radar. Meanwhile, at the crash site, Raditz grows irritated by Gohan's relentless crying and shoves the boy into his space pod to silence him. As he prepares to hunt for food, his scouter beeps with a reading of 710 coming from inside the pod. Raditz refuses to believe a small child could possess that kind of power and concludes the device is broken.
Goku suggests they descend slowly to avoid detection, but Piccolo warns him that Raditz carries a device capable of sensing both position and battle power. They adjust course and approach from the east instead. Raditz picks up the 710 reading a second time, then detects two more signals closing in from a different direction: 322 and 334. He notes that one matches Kakarrot's power, but reasons that his brother could not possibly know his location. Certain the scouter is malfunctioning, he ignores the warnings.
Goku and Piccolo land in front of Raditz, proving the scouter was accurate all along, including the 710 reading from Gohan. Raditz demands to know how they tracked him, but Goku brushes off the question and tells him to hand over his son. Raditz asks if Goku truly intends to fight his own brother, and Goku firmly denies any brotherhood between them.
Piccolo removes his turban and mantle, revealing that he has been training with heavy weighted clothing. His battle power jumps to 408. Goku follows suit, stripping off his undershirt, boots, and wristbands to reach 416. Raditz is unimpressed, mocking their numbers as insignificant compared to his own. He charges at both fighters simultaneously, vanishing and reappearing behind them in an instant. A brutal elbow slams into each of their backs before they can react. Both warriors leap aside, stunned by the gap in speed. Goku begins plotting to grab Raditz's tail, while Raditz delivers one final taunt: the other two surviving Saiyans possess battle powers far greater than his.
