Let the Games Begin!

Manga ChapterCh. 213

Vegeta reveals that Piccolo is a Namekian, shattering assumptions about his origins and the Dragon Balls' creation. Rather than fight the Earthlings directly, the Saiyans plant six Saibamen to test them. The Z Fighters accept the challenge to buy time for Goku, and Tien steps up first, defeating his Saibaman with clinical efficiency.

Namekian Origins Revealed

Piccolo demands to know what the Saiyans want. Vegeta recognizes his voice as the one who killed Raditz, explaining that their scouters double as communicators. Nappa asks whether Piccolo is a Namekian, shocking Krillin and Gohan. Vegeta explains that Namekians are known for strange abilities and magic, so Piccolo must be the one who created the Dragon Balls. Piccolo denies this. Up at the Lookout, Kami admits he never knew he was an alien. He confirms he created the Dragon Balls but wonders if someone on his original homeworld had made something similar.

The Saibamen Challenge

Nappa reads their battle powers: Krillin at 981, Piccolo at 1,220, Gohan at 1,083. He scoffs at such low numbers. Vegeta orders Nappa to remove his scouter, explaining these fighters can change their power at will, making the readings useless. Nappa notes that weakling Raditz relied on his scouter too much, a comment that shocks Krillin and Piccolo.

Vegeta tells Nappa to plant six Saibamen. Nappa drops six seeds into the ground and pours liquid over them, and six grotesque plant creatures sprout instantly. Before the fight begins, Tien and Chiaotzu arrive, followed by Yamcha. Now facing six defenders, Vegeta declares it a perfect match and calls the whole affair a game.

Tien Takes the First Round

Piccolo snaps at Vegeta for treating this as entertainment, but Krillin reasons that fighting the Saibamen buys time for Goku to arrive. Tien volunteers to go first. The Saibaman charges at him, and Tien swats it back. The creature retaliates by splitting its head open and spraying corrosive acid. Tien dodges while Krillin and Piccolo barely avoid the splash, which burns through solid rock. Tien finishes the fight with a sharp elbow to the creature's face, knocking it out cold. Nappa is stunned, but Vegeta just grins.
