One More... the Sphere!

Manga ChapterCh. 236

Goku transfers the remaining Spirit Bomb energy to Krillin, placing the Earth's fate in his best friend's hands. As Gohan struggles to survive Vegeta's relentless assault, Krillin perches atop a rocky outcropping and tries to find the right moment to strike. King Kai reaches out telepathically to guide him, but Yajirobe's panicked shouting alerts Vegeta at the worst possible moment.

Passing the Spirit Bomb

While Gohan and Vegeta trade blows across the wasteland, Krillin approaches the battered Goku and asks what he means about a Spirit Bomb. Goku explains that he has been slowly gathering energy from the Earth itself. Roughly half the power has already dissipated, but what remains should still be enough to bring Vegeta down. He tells Krillin to take his hand immediately. Krillin hesitates, confused, but Goku shouts at him to hurry before Gohan is killed. Vegeta kicks Gohan hard and sends him flying just as Krillin clasps Goku's hand. Pain shoots through Goku's broken bones, but he holds on. A glow passes from Goku's palm into Krillin's, and Krillin feels the immense energy surge through him. Goku instructs him to concentrate the power into a sphere. A glowing ball of condensed ki forms above Krillin's open hand: the Spirit Bomb.

The Desperate Moment

Goku begs Krillin to hit Vegeta with the blast, warning that he cannot create another one. Krillin promises to try and flies up to the top of a tall rock formation, holding the Spirit Bomb aloft. Below, Gohan barely dodges a direct blast from Vegeta and retaliates with a Masenko. Vegeta feigns as though he will tank the attack head-on, then sidesteps it at the final instant. Krillin grows frustrated, unable to find an opening.

King Kai's Guidance

A voice enters Krillin's mind, instructing him not to aim with his eyes but to feel for the evil ki and fire at that. The voice belongs to King Kai, who reveals himself as the one who taught Goku the Spirit Bomb technique. He tells Krillin that the entire Earth's hopes ride on this single attack. Below, Vegeta unleashes a barrage of rapid-fire blasts from both hands, pummeling Gohan with explosion after explosion. Gohan is knocked down, and Vegeta charges in to finish him off, telling Goku to watch his son die. At that precise moment, Krillin finally locks onto Vegeta's malevolent energy. But before he can throw, Yajirobe screams up at him from the ground, demanding to know what he is waiting for. Vegeta hears the shout and freezes. Krillin hurls the Spirit Bomb, and Vegeta attempts a last-second dodge.
