Reunion at the Wasteland

Bulma, Chi-Chi, Master Roshi, and Korin arrive at Gizard Wasteland in their aircraft. Chi-Chi bolts from the ship the moment it touches down, shouting Gohan's name. She sprints across the ruined landscape, leaping right over her critically injured husband without a second glance, and snatches Gohan from Krillin's arms. She clutches the unconscious, naked boy to her chest and swears she will never leave him again. Krillin tries to point out that Goku is in terrible shape too, but Chi-Chi is not listening. He walks over to Goku, who is now surrounded by Master Roshi, Korin, and Bulma. Krillin tells them that the Saiyans killed everyone except the four of them.

Lost Dragon Balls

Bulma responds cheerfully, suggesting they simply gather the Dragon Balls next year and wish everyone back. Goku breaks the devastating news: Piccolo is dead, and because Piccolo and Kami are linked, the Dragon Balls have turned to stone. There is no way to revive anyone. Bulma refuses to believe it and insists Piccolo must still be alive, but Yajirobe walks over and confirms that Piccolo was the fourth casualty. Bulma breaks down, and the group boards the aircraft in heavy silence.

A Glimmer of Hope

Inside the ship, Krillin gives directions to where the bodies of their fallen friends lie. They collect the remains of Yamcha, Tien Shinhan, and Piccolo. Chiaotzu's body is absent because he self-destructed earlier in a futile attempt to kill Nappa. As the aircraft lifts off again, Gohan regains consciousness in his mother's arms. He learns that Vegeta has fled and is relieved to see his father alive, even if barely. Krillin then shares something he overheard during the battle. The Saiyans mentioned that if Dragon Balls could not be found on Earth, they could always travel to Planet Namek, the original homeworld of Piccolo and Kami. Bulma is skeptical, wondering how they could even locate such a distant planet. Goku says he can contact King Kai, who should know the planet's location.
