Vegeta vs. Dodoria

Manga ChapterCh. 256

Vegeta confronts the isolated Dodoria in a one-on-one fight, revealing he no longer needs a scouter to sense ki. Dodoria attempts to bargain for his life by revealing that Frieza personally destroyed Planet Vegeta out of fear of the Saiyans' growing power. Vegeta acknowledges the truth, but his rage is entirely selfish, and he executes Dodoria with a single devastating blast.

The Scouter Gambit

Dodoria hauls himself out of the ocean, furious that Vegeta attacked from behind. Vegeta explains he has been waiting for Dodoria or Zarbon to separate from Frieza. Dodoria orders Vegeta to hand over his scouter and walk away, but Vegeta realizes with amusement that Frieza's entire team has lost their scouters. None of them knew when he was nearby, and his opportunity has arrived. He removes his own scouter, explaining he only needed it to time his voyage to Namek, and crushes it underfoot. Vegeta reveals that he learned on Earth how to detect an opponent's location and strength without any device.

Dodoria's Desperation

Dodoria suggests Vegeta still needs a scouter to find Namekians and their Dragon Balls, but Vegeta dismisses the idea. He goads Dodoria, noting that Dodoria must have seen Vegeta's dramatically higher power during the fight against Cui. Dodoria insists the reading was an error and attacks in a rage, unleashing a barrage of blasts that reduces the terrain to rubble. Vegeta appears unscathed behind him, catches his punch, then grabs both arms and pins them behind his back. Vegeta explains that his brush with death on Earth triggered a massive Saiyan power increase, and Dodoria can no longer challenge him.

The Truth About Planet Vegeta

Dodoria desperately offers a secret in exchange for his life: the truth about Planet Vegeta. It was not a meteorite that destroyed the Saiyan homeworld. Frieza feared the Saiyans were growing too numerous and too powerful, so he annihilated the planet himself. He spared Vegeta only because the prince's abilities made him useful, and he waited until Vegeta was off-world to strike. Vegeta listens in silence, then clarifies: he does not mourn his planet, his parents, or his people. His anger is purely personal; he was used as a pawn without knowing the truth. Dodoria panics and tries to flee, but Vegeta fires a single massive blast that kills him in midair. Vegeta reflects that Frieza fears the limitless potential of the Saiyan race.
