The Z Fighters choose to train for three years rather than take the easy route of using the Dragon Balls to locate Dr. Gero. Goku demonstrates Instant Transmission, the group splits into training pairs, and Vegeta demands a gravity chamber of his own. A three-year time skip brings them to the day of the predicted android attack.
Before the group disperses, Vegeta asks Goku how he escaped the dying Planet Namek. Goku explains that he found five space pods nearby. Vegeta realizes these belonged to the Ginyu Force, whose coordinates were set for Planet Yardrat. Goku confirms that the Yardratians took him in, gave him fresh clothes, and taught him a remarkable skill. To prove his claim, Goku uses Instant Transmission to teleport to Kame House, swipe Master Roshi's sunglasses, and return in the blink of an eye, leaving the group astounded.
Tien asks for specifics on when and where they should reconvene. Goku draws a blank, but Piccolo provides the details and suggests arriving an hour early. He warns that anyone who does not believe they can contribute should stay home. Vegeta retorts that the warning applies to Piccolo himself. Bulma offers a practical alternative: summon Shenron and wish for Dr. Gero's location so they can strike first. Krillin warms to the idea, but Vegeta threatens to kill Bulma if she interferes with his chance to fight. Goku sides with the Saiyans' desire for battle, and even Tien and Krillin agree, noting that a common enemy will keep Vegeta in check. Bulma is appalled by their stubbornness.
The group splits up. Goku, Piccolo, and Gohan train together. Tien and Chiaotzu pair off, while Krillin and Yamcha head to Master Roshi's island. Vegeta declares he will surpass the Super Saiyan level and flies away alone. At Capsule Corporation, he orders Dr. Brief to build a 300G gravity training room. Meanwhile, Goku tries to convince Chi-Chi to let Gohan train instead of study. She refuses furiously, but an accidental pat on the back from Goku sends her crashing through a wall, and she reluctantly agrees on the condition that Goku gives up martial arts afterward. Piccolo privately doubts Goku can keep that promise. The chapter jumps three years ahead to the appointed day, as Goku, Gohan, and Piccolo fly toward the island where the androids are expected to appear.
