Slaughter in South City

Manga ChapterCh. 337

Unable to sense the androids' energy, the Z Fighters split up and comb through the city on foot. Meanwhile, Androids 19 and 20 begin terrorizing civilians in brutal fashion. Yamcha tracks the commotion to the scene of the murders, unaware that the machines have already identified him and are lurking directly above.

Searching Blind

Realizing the androids must be hiding somewhere in the city, Piccolo points out that they will have to rely on their eyes since the machines produce no detectable ki. Goku orders everyone to spread out and search, warning them to signal the others the moment they spot anything. He tells Gohan to check on Yajirobe, who survived the hovercar explosion. As the group fans out, Goku mutters that he wishes Future Trunks had brought a photograph. Krillin draws startled looks from a civilian while flying overhead and gets nowhere asking about suspicious strangers.

The Androids Strike

While the Z Fighters search, Androids 19 and 20 walk casually through the streets. A pedestrian mentions the exploding hovercar, and Android 19 approaches the man and headbutts him without warning. When the friend reacts, 19 punches him into a wall. Nearby, Android 20 stands in the middle of the road and is nearly struck by a car. The driver honks and yells, and 20 responds by shoving his hand through the hood, ripping the driver out through the roof, and killing him instantly. A woman witnesses the murder and screams. Yamcha, still searching nearby, hears her and sprints toward the sound.

Mistaken Identity

Android 20 detects Yamcha's unusually high power level and suspects a sensor malfunction, but Android 19 confirms the reading. Both note that the energy exceeds normal human parameters, and 19 speculates they have found Goku. When Yamcha arrives, he discovers the dead civilians but sees no killers. He questions witnesses, who describe two strange people who vanished. As he debates calling for backup, the androids float silently above. Android 19 determines this is not Goku and identifies the target as Yamcha with 96% certainty. Android 20 decides he will make a suitable energy source regardless.

The pair drops behind Yamcha. He turns, asking if they saw the murderers, then freezes as he recognizes what they are. Before he can shout, Android 20 clamps a hand over his mouth and lifts him off the ground. Yamcha feels his energy draining as 20 drives a hand through his chest.
