Manga ChapterCh. 348

The Z Fighters break into Dr. Gero's lab and come face to face with Androids 17 and 18. The twins immediately defy their creator, and when Android 18 discovers a mysterious chamber labeled "16," events spiral beyond anyone's control. Gero's creations turn on him with lethal finality.

Breaking Down the Door

Piccolo curses their failure to reach the lab before the androids were activated, but Vegeta has no interest in waiting. Future Trunks pleads with him to hold off until Goku recovers, yet Vegeta ignores the warning and blasts the reinforced door apart. The smoke clears to reveal Androids 17 and 18 standing calmly inside. Vegeta asks Trunks whether these are the correct androids, and Trunks confirms they are. Krillin is taken aback by their youthful appearance, but Trunks warns against underestimating them. Gero orders the pair to kill the Z Fighters, noting that the group already destroyed Android 19.

Defiance and Discovery

Android 17 asks whether 19 was an Energy Absorption model, and Gero confirms it. Android 18 suggests he returned to that inferior design because she and 17 were too powerful to control. Gero commands them to attack, but 17 coolly replies that they will fight when they feel like it. Android 18 wanders deeper into the lab and finds a sealed chamber labeled "16." She observes that the android inside runs on a perpetual energy reactor like them but is far bigger. Gero orders her away from it. Trunks notes that he has never heard of an Android 16.

The Creator Falls

Android 17 tells 18 to open the chamber. Gero protests that 16 was an experimental failure whose activation could endanger the world. Android 18 points out that Gero scrapped every android up to 15 yet kept 16 intact. Krillin suggests the group flee, but Vegeta scoffs, claiming he alone can handle the situation. Gero calls the twins failures and threatens to build a new deactivation remote. In response, 17 punches clean through Gero's torso from behind, then decapitates him with a swift kick. The severed head rolls to the Z Fighters' feet, still cursing the androids, before 17 crushes it. A desperate Future Trunks fires a barrage of energy blasts into the lab, leveling the structure. When the dust settles, 17, 18, and the sealed chamber are completely unharmed. Android 18 kicks the chamber open, and the towering figure inside begins to stir.
