Future Trunks and Gohan race to investigate the mysterious second Time Machine, joined by Bulma. The cockpit has been melted open from the inside, and a large eggshell sits within the cabin. On the Lookout, Kami senses a creature far more dangerous than the androids and declares that he must fuse with Piccolo to confront the looming threat.
Future Trunks tells the others he must see the wrecked Time Machine with his own eyes. Bulma agrees to meet him at the coordinates, and Gohan volunteers to tag along. Chi-Chi protests, but Gohan assures her they are not heading anywhere dangerous. At Capsule Corporation, Bulma tells her mother to watch baby Trunks while she goes to meet her son from the future. During the flight, Gohan asks Future Trunks about the state of his world. Trunks reveals the population has been reduced to tens of thousands, West City lies in ruins, and survivors hide in underground shelters. He speculates that Dr. Gero must have installed some kind of emergency shutdown switch to control the androids, reasoning that Gero would never have activated beings he could not restrain.
They arrive at the site and locate the second Time Machine immediately. Bulma reaches them shortly after, and Future Trunks brings out his own machine to compare the two side by side. He confirms they are identical down to the word HOPE!! scrawled on the hull, something he wrote himself the day he departed. Gohan flies up to the cockpit and notices the window has been melted through from the inside. Trunks opens it and discovers two halves of a large eggshell resting in the seat. Bulma suggests whatever hatched from the egg burned its way out. The machine still holds a faint charge, and when Trunks powers it on he learns it arrived from Age 788, three years after his own departure. The machine has sat here for four years, meaning it landed a full year before Trunks first appeared in this timeline.
High above, Kami watches everything unfold from the Lookout and grows visibly agitated. Piccolo mocks him for spying on the world below, reminding him he will lose that ability once they merge. Kami murmurs about the thing that emerged from the Time Machine and reveals that a creature on Earth surpasses even the androids in potential. Piccolo demands to know what he is talking about. Kami declares the time has come for them to fuse, admitting he sees no other hope for the crisis ahead.
