Cell charges a Solar Kamehameha powerful enough to obliterate the entire solar system, while a battered Gohan considers giving up. From Other World, Goku reaches out through King Kai's telepathy to rally his son for one final stand. With only one usable arm, Gohan launches a Kamehameha of his own, and father and son pour everything into one desperate clash against Cell's ultimate attack.
Cell begins gathering energy for his Solar Kamehameha, declaring that he intends to destroy the entire Earth. Gohan watches in stunned silence. He mentally apologizes to his father, admitting he has failed to protect the planet Goku died to save. Vegeta lies on the ground after being swatted aside, muttering that he was nothing but a burden. The fact that Vegeta of all people feels remorse confirms just how dire the situation is. Piccolo clenches his fists and curses their powerlessness.
Cell's energy buildup sends tremors across the globe that civilians mistake for earthquakes. Jimmy Firecracker scrambles to describe the spectacle while Mr. Satan dismisses it as trickery. Cell taunts Gohan, but the boy tells him to just finish it. Cell shrugs and prepares to fire. At that instant, Gohan hears a familiar voice: Goku, speaking from Snake Way through King Kai's telepathy, tells his son not to surrender.
Goku instructs Gohan to counter with a Kamehameha. Gohan protests that his left arm is useless, and Cell assumes the boy is muttering out of fear. Goku tells Gohan to trust the power they built together. Gohan agrees, and Goku adds that he should avenge both him and King Kai. Gohan apologizes for his arrogance during the fight, and Goku waves it off, saying he is enjoying the afterlife and that Gohan should enjoy his own life once this ends. Drawing on every ounce of remaining strength, Gohan channels a one-armed Kamehameha. Cell scoffs at the weakened blast, and Piccolo notes that Gohan's ki is far too low. Cell roars for Gohan to die, and the two beams collide. Behind Gohan, the spiritual silhouette of Goku appears, lending strength from beyond.
