Videl grows suspicious of Gohan's powerful friends as the Junior Division kicks off at the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament. Mr. Satan makes a flashy entrance, the prize money is announced, and young Trunks steamrolls his first opponent in seconds, leaving the audience stunned and the older fighters thoroughly bored.
Gohan asks Videl how her flying training is progressing, but she is preoccupied with the group that demolished the Punch Machine. Every one of them scored over 200, dwarfing her father's record of 139. Goku suggests they go watch the Junior Division while they wait for a replacement machine. As the fighters approach Gohan, Goku cheerfully notes that his friend is a girl, and Krillin adds that she is cute. Videl is stunned to learn Gohan knows these people. He explains that the man in the orange gi is his father, pointing to the halo as proof that he returned from the dead.
The announcer reveals the Junior Division champion will receive ten million zeni, with five million for the runner-up. The winner also earns a special exhibition bout against Mr. Satan. Satan bursts into the ring to pump up the crowd but immediately slips and crashes. He writhes in pain, then leaps up and insists it was a joke.
Backstage, Goten plans to spend his winnings on toys and candy, while Trunks claims he will buy something more mature. An older competitor with a mullet mocks Trunks and asks if he is wearing a diaper. Trunks calmly insults the boy's hair, leaving him fuming.
The rules mirror the adult division: ring-out, knockout, ten-count, or surrender all result in a loss, but there are no preliminary rounds for children. All thirty-five kids fight on the main stage. Meanwhile, Gohan and Videl remain stuck in line at the Punch Machine, unable to watch.
The ninth bout pits eight-year-old Trunks against fifteen-year-old Idasa. Idasa's mother cheers loudly and insults Trunks, only to realize she is sitting next to Bulma, who fires back with her own support. The match begins and Trunks sweeps Idasa off his feet, kicks him skyward, and watches him crash face-first into the ring. Idasa is knocked out instantly. Krillin mutters that nothing interesting will happen until Goten and Trunks finally face each other.
