During the intermission before the Adult Division, Trunks and Goten hatch a plan to sneak into the adult bracket by disguising themselves as the masked fighter Mighty Mask. Meanwhile, the Z Fighters encounter a strange pair of newcomers: a tall, solemn warrior and a small floating man who knows Goku by reputation and senses that he possesses a good soul.
The announcer declares a thirty-minute intermission before the Adult Division begins. Krillin suggests the group grab food. An attendant checks their names at the gate: Krillin, Goku, No. 18, Vegeta, and Ma Junior. Goku questions the last entry, and Piccolo explains that entering as "Piccolo" might cause problems. They pass through and learn the match drawing will take place at 1:30.
Krillin notes that only their group and Gohan will pose any threat. Goku remarks that prize money holds no value for a dead man. Krillin jokes that Goku does not even age while dead, and Goku asks if he wants to try it. Krillin declines, saying he is far too happy with his current life.
Trunks spots a masked adult competitor and devises a scheme. If they knock the man out and steal his outfit, the two boys can stack on top of each other and fight in the adult bracket. Goten objects, but Trunks is already in motion. He lures the fighter behind a building with a story about a pretty girl, then knocks him unconscious. The boys take his costume, and Trunks climbs onto Goten's shoulders. Goten pokes eye holes through the shirt, and the wobbly figure runs off to join the adults.
Goku and Vegeta devour plate after plate of food while their friends watch. Gohan and Videl arrive, and Gohan dives into eating alongside the Saiyans. After the meal, the group encounters two unfamiliar figures: a tall, silent man and a small person with spiky hair who floats effortlessly. Piccolo and Goku are both visibly unsettled.
The small man greets Goku by name, explaining he has heard of him and has also qualified for the tournament. He wants to test himself against Goku and asks to shake hands. During the handshake, he remarks that Goku possesses a truly good soul. The pair departs, and Goku quietly tells the group that winning may not be as simple as they assumed. Krillin sensed nothing remarkable about either of them.
