Drawing the Bracket

Piccolo suspects the two strangers are not from Earth but wonders why aliens would enter a martial arts tournament. Videl overhears, and Gohan tells her Piccolo is just eccentric. The group arrives backstage just in time for the match drawing. Krillin prays he will not face any friends in the first round, and Piccolo dryly reminds him that God is Dende. Goku scans the competitors and thinks nobody besides the mysterious pair looks strong. He notices two men with an "M" on their foreheads and finds Mighty Mask's appearance odd.

The Matchups Take Shape

The announcer calls contestants in alphabetical order. Killa draws slot 14, Kibito draws 7, and Krillin draws 1. Gohan draws 8, placing him against Kibito. Android 18 draws 9, and Shin draws 3. When Spopovich's name is called, the real fighter does not respond, so Trunks and Goten rush forward thinking it is theirs. The announcer corrects them: they are Mighty Mask. Spopovich then draws 6. Jewel draws 16, and Goku draws 11.

Videl draws 5, matching her against Spopovich. Goku realizes she is Mr. Satan's daughter, and Krillin teases Gohan about the wedding. Pintar draws 2, relieving Krillin. Then Vegeta draws 12, setting up a first-round bout against Goku. Vegeta declares he has waited a long time for this. Trunks and Goten argue over whose father will win before drawing 13 for Mighty Mask. Piccolo draws 4, matching him with Shin. Satan gets 10 via the announcer, putting him against 18. Yamu draws 15 to face Jewel.

The Tournament Begins

The announcer reviews the rules in the waiting room. A thirty-minute time limit per match has been added. Pintar boasts he will finish Krillin in ten seconds; Krillin scoffs. The announcer then formally opens the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament. An attendant informs the recovering Mr. Satan that his fifth-match opponent is an unknown, beautiful woman. Satan immediately perks up.
