The World Martial Arts Tournament kicks off with two quick matches that expose the gulf between ordinary fighters and the Z Warriors. Krillin dispatches hulking Pintar without effort, while Piccolo forfeits against Shin after sensing a power beyond comprehension. As the third match approaches, Shin casts a worried glance toward Spopovich.
The tournament bracket is set and the announcer reads matchups for the crowd. The first bout pairs Krillin against Pintar, a towering competitor who reached the semifinals at the previous tournament. Marron worries about her father's enormous opponent, but Yamcha reassures her that Krillin is the strongest Earthling alive.
Pintar taunts Krillin about his small stature and flips across the ring to show off his speed. He dares Krillin to throw a punch. Krillin obliges with a casual blow to the gut, a slap across the face, and a kick that sends Pintar sailing out of bounds. The announcer is thrilled to witness such power and quickly calls for the second match.
The second fight features Shin against Ma Junior. The announcer recalls that Ma Junior once reached the finals in a legendary bout and asks him not to destroy the ring again. Backstage, Vegeta is eager to finally gauge Shin's true power.
Once the match starts, Piccolo freezes. An overwhelming force tells him he cannot fight this person. Shin invites him to treat the bout as a game, and Piccolo realizes his thoughts have been read. The weight of Shin's presence is unbearable. He concedes and walks out of the ring. Shin reflects that Piccolo, as a former guardian of Earth, has begun to sense his true identity.
Piccolo tells Goku the gap in power between himself and Shin is on another level entirely. Krillin grows nervous knowing he faces Shin next. The announcer introduces the third match: Videl versus Spopovich. The crowd cheers for Videl, Mr. Satan's daughter and a crime fighter who won the Youth Division seven years prior. On his way backstage, Shin passes Spopovich and glances back at him with visible concern.
