Videl... Battered

Manga ChapterCh. 437

Videl's battle with Spopovich turns into a nightmare. After landing a kick that twists his head completely around, she watches in horror as he grabs his own skull and wrenches it back into place. Spopovich then takes to the air, a feat he was never capable of before, and begins a relentless assault while Gohan begs Videl to surrender.

A Gruesome Display

The fight between Videl and Spopovich shifts decisively against Videl. Spopovich catches her with a series of heavy strikes and nearly kicks her out of the ring. Videl saves herself at the last moment by using the flight technique Gohan taught her, hovering just outside the boundary before looping back onto the platform. Gohan is relieved that his lessons paid off, but Goku remains troubled. Spopovich shows almost no reaction to the damage he has taken, and Goku cannot sense any ki from him at all.

Summoning everything she has, Videl delivers a devastating spinning kick that connects squarely with Spopovich's head. The impact wrenches his neck all the way around with a sickening crack. The crowd, the announcer, and Videl herself believe the fight is over. Then Spopovich reaches up, grabs his own head with both hands, and forces it back into its normal position. The arena falls silent in disbelief.

The Tide Turns Completely

Capitalizing on Videl's shock, Spopovich drives a fist into her face. Videl recovers and takes to the air to create distance, but Spopovich pursues her into the sky. Killa and Jewel are dumbfounded, certain that Spopovich was never able to fly before. High above the ring, Spopovich blasts Videl back down to the platform with a kiai wave. Krillin notes that the blast lacked full force, and Vegeta explains the restraint is deliberate: killing an opponent results in disqualification.

Once Videl crashes back into the ring, Spopovich resumes pounding on her without mercy. The crowd's cheers have turned to horrified gasps and pleas for the fight to stop. Backstage, Gohan clenches his fists and begs Videl to forfeit before she takes any more punishment. Videl, stubborn and proud, refuses to quit, but her body is reaching its limit under Spopovich's relentless onslaught.
