Vegito lets himself be swallowed by Buu, but a hidden barrier prevents actual absorption. Inside the Majin's body, the fusion unexpectedly splits back into Goku and Vegeta. Vegeta crushes his Potara earring to ensure they can never fuse again, and the two Saiyans discover the absorbed fighters trapped in pods within Buu's innards. As they free their allies, Buu reverts and loses his stolen power.
The Supreme Kais watch as Buu celebrates, cursing Vegito and gloating over his victory. Kibito Kai assumes hope is lost, but Old Kai notices Buu has not powered up at all, and his body has not changed the way it did after previous absorptions. He suspects Vegito planned this. Buu himself pauses, confused by his unchanged form, then shrugs it off, rips his shirt, and declares himself the strongest Majin alive.
Inside Buu's body, Vegito confirms his energy barrier held and he was never absorbed. He drops the barrier and begins searching for the absorbed fighters. The Supreme Kais recognize his strategy and praise the gambit.
The instant Vegito drops the barrier, the Potara fusion reverses. Goku and Vegeta stand apart, equally stunned. Goku speculates the toxic atmosphere inside Buu disrupted the bond. Vegeta is delighted. He rips off his Potara earring and vows never to merge with Kakarot again. When Goku protests, Vegeta crushes the earring. Goku reminds him that, as a dead man, Vegeta must eventually return to the Other World. Vegeta says he would rather face oblivion. Goku crushes his own earring, and the Kais panic.
Vegeta finds translucent pods embedded in Buu's inner lining containing Piccolo, Gohan, Trunks, and Goten. As they cut the pods free, Buu's outer form shifts and regresses, stripping away every absorbed power until he returns to his base form. Goku detects the drop in ki. Vegeta wants to blast out, but Goku warns they still cannot match Buu. While debating, they spot one more pod containing the good Buu who befriended Mr. Satan. They move to free him, unaware that a piece of Buu has silently formed behind them.
