The full flashback of Bardock's battle with Gas plays out on Planet Cereal. Despite being outclassed, Bardock refuses every chance to flee, even turning down a wish from the Cerealian Dragon. Instead, he asks for his sons to thrive. Pushed past his limits, Bardock taps into the Saiyan ability to evolve through near-death and overwhelms Gas with a decisive blast.
Forty years ago on Planet Cereal, Monaito urges Bardock to flee, insisting the Saiyan has done more than enough for them. Gas overhears and cryptically warns that the Saiyans are not destined to last much longer. Bardock refuses to retreat. He is clearly outmatched, especially once Gas taps into his inner nature, but he keeps fighting without yielding.
Monaito gathers the Cerealian Dragon Balls and summons Toronbo. He requests the Dragon teleport Bardock home, but Bardock flatly refuses, declaring he would rather die than run away. Monaito asks if another wish could help instead. Bardock answers: he wants his sons to thrive. The Dragon Balls scatter, and the glow catches Elec's attention. He goes to investigate while Oil and Macki head off to meet Frieza's arriving ship.
Gas completely dominates the fight. He grabs Bardock by the tail, slams him down, and rips the tail clean off. He forms an energy spear for the kill, but Monaito throws himself in the way and takes the spear through his shoulder. Enraged, Gas unleashes his full inner instincts, smashes Monaito aside, and seizes Bardock by the throat. He tells the Saiyan he will die without having protected anyone.
Bardock refuses to yield. Gas demands to know why he continues fighting an unwinnable battle, questioning if it is guilt or revenge. Bardock, powering up, says it is neither; it is purely about winning a life-and-death struggle. The tables turn as Bardock overwhelms Gas, who is baffled because Saiyans should have no ascended state beyond the Great Ape. Bardock explains that his race evolves every time they are pushed past their limits and finishes Gas with a devastating energy blast. Elec arrives to find Gas unconscious, taunts the exhausted Bardock, and shoots him through the arm. The Saiyan falls from the cliff into the forest below. Sometime later, Monaito finds him alive and congratulates him on the victory.
