Rampaging Cell Max

Manga ChapterCh. 97

With Cell Max unleashed and raging out of control, the Z Fighters mount a desperate counterattack against the towering android. A botched fusion produces Fat Gotenks, forcing Gohan, Piccolo, and Android 18 to enter the fray as Gamma 2 hatches a plan that could change everything.

The Young Saiyans Step Up

Trunks and Goten charge at Cell Max but are swatted aside with barely any effort. Piccolo, informed by Bulma that the boys have skipped training for half a year, suggests they get involved. The young Saiyans transform into Super Saiyans, and the boost to their speed lets them land several clean hits. Gamma 1 and Gamma 2 join in, and together the four execute their Cyclone Style! Tornado Super Hurricane combo, pile-driving into Cell Max's midsection and sending him crashing into a mountainside.

Cell Max rises without a scratch and unleashes a fresh surge of power, blitzing all four fighters in the blink of an eye. Gohan observes from the sidelines that Cell Max is growing stronger and adapting to combat in real time.

Fusion Failure and Full Assault

Goten and Trunks attempt the Fusion Dance as a last resort, but years of neglect produce only Fat Gotenks, who is promptly knocked out. Gohan and Piccolo rush into battle alongside Android 18. When the Gammas rejoin, Gamma 1 reveals a critical weakness: Dr. Hedo built a fail-safe into Cell Max's cranium. A strike to the top of his head can destroy the android, though it will trigger a catastrophic explosion.

The team targets the weak point, but Cell Max's constant movement makes a clean shot nearly impossible. Gamma 1 creates an opening, Gamma 2 fires a point-blank Ray Gun blast, and Piccolo follows with a devastating strike to the skull. The blow fails to leave even a dent. Enraged, Cell Max fires energy beams in every direction, and Krillin dives in to rescue Pan at the last moment.

Gamma 2's Decision

Taking cover behind rubble, Gamma 2 concludes that only a far more powerful attack can crack the weak point. Gamma 1 volunteers to combine their firepower, but Gamma 2 declines, telling his partner to rescue Dr. Hedo, who is still alive in the wreckage.
