Voice actor known for voicing Tien Shinhan throughout Dragon Ball Z and establishing the character's serious, disciplined demeanor.
Hirotaka Suzuoki voiced Tien Shinhan across the Dragon Ball franchise, alongside several other roles that defined his presence in the series. He voiced the World Tournament Announcer, Mr. Shu, Caroni, the Alien Announcer, Captain Chicken, Dolltaki, and Rage Shenron. His performance as Tien gave the Three-Eyed Warrior a stern, imposing quality that suited the character's disciplined martial arts philosophy. During his hospitalization in 1991, Kōichi Yamadera briefly filled in for him in Dragon Ball Z episodes 82 and 84.
Born on March 6, 1950, Suzuoki was part of the SLAPSTICK band from 1984 to 1986, playing keyboards alongside fellow Dragon Ball voice actors Tōru Furuya, Toshio Furukawa, and others. Suzuoki passed away on August 6, 2006, at age 56 from lung cancer. Out of respect for his memory, Tien was originally intended to appear in Dragon Ball: The Return of Son Goku and Friends! but was excluded from the special. Hikaru Midorikawa took over the role for Dragon Ball Z Kai.
