A broad classification encompassing numerous intelligent extraterrestrial species encountered throughout the Dragon Ball universe. From Frieza Force grunts to Tournament of Power competitors, aliens of every shape and size populate the cosmos.
In the Dragon Ball universe, "alien" is less a specific race and more a catch-all term for the countless intelligent species scattered across the cosmos. The series establishes early on that Earth is just one inhabited world among thousands, and once Raditz arrives during the Saiyan Saga, the scope of alien life explodes outward. From that point forward, nearly every major arc introduces new species, each with unique biology, cultures, and power levels. Some are towering insectoids. Others resemble aquatic creatures or walking plants. The sheer variety is staggering, and it only grows as the story moves through the Frieza Saga, the Tournament of Power, and beyond.
Alien species play a role in virtually every saga of Dragon Ball. The Frieza Force alone employs soldiers from dozens of different worlds, many of whom are glimpsed only briefly during the Namek Saga or Resurrection 'F'. The Dragon Ball Fusions game formalized the concept by creating an "Alien" racial class that encompasses any naturally occurring, intelligent extraterrestrial species that is neither Saiyan nor Namekian. This includes members of the Frieza Clan, the various races comprising the Ginyu Force, and countless others. A separate "Offworlder" class covers supernatural or non-natural beings like Majins and inhabitants of the Demon Realm.
The Tournament of Power in Dragon Ball Super brought alien diversity to its peak, showcasing fighters from eight different universes. Species that had never been seen before suddenly took center stage, from Universe 11's Pride Troopers to Universe 6's many unique fighters. Each universe proved to have its own ecosystem of races, making the Dragon Ball cosmos feel truly infinite.
What makes the alien designation interesting in Dragon Ball is that power levels vary wildly across species. Some alien races produce warriors capable of destroying planets, while others struggle to defend their own homeworlds from a single invader. The Saiyans and Frieza Clan sit at the top of the known hierarchy, but the Tournament of Power revealed that extraordinary fighters can emerge from virtually any species in any universe. Jiren, whose race has no special name or reputation, turned out to be one of the strongest mortals in all of existence. The lesson Dragon Ball keeps reinforcing is that potential is not limited by species; it is defined by the individual.
