Cranberry's Race

Race

Humanoid aliens distinguished by their distinctive blowout hairdos in various colors. This species served the Frieza Force in roles from foot soldiers to medics and engineers. Cranberry, who later assisted the escaped prisoner Moro, is the most narratively significant member.

The Blowout Brigade

Cranberry's race consists of average-sized humanoid aliens whose most recognizable feature is a voluminous blowout hairstyle that comes in various colors, from orange to black to green to blue. Beyond their distinctive hair, they share a general humanoid build comparable to Earthlings. The species possesses at least one unusual biological capability: they can breathe in the vacuum of space, as demonstrated when the member Fisshi survived being blown out of King Cold's spaceship. Their homeworld is unnamed, and the species was subdued by the Frieza Force at some point in history, after which its members were integrated into the organization in a wide variety of roles.

Soldiers, Medics, and the Moro Connection

Members of this race appear throughout the Frieza Force's history in an unusually diverse set of roles. Namole served as a mid-level soldier during the Namek Saga and was killed by Frieza for showing fear. Fisshi served under King Cold and was killed by Future Trunks during the latter's arrival on Earth. Some of the Frieza Force medics and engineers who rebuilt Frieza into his mechanical form after his defeat on Namek were apparently members of this race, giving them a connection to one of the most pivotal events in the series.

Cranberry himself first appeared during the Namek Saga fighting against Moori's village, where he was defeated by a Warrior-type Namekian and then killed by Zarbon for his failure. However, Cranberry's most significant role came much later, during the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga in Dragon Ball Super. Having been revived at some point, Cranberry accompanied the ancient sorcerer Moro after his prison break. He assisted Moro in reaching New Namek and using the Namekian Dragon Balls, though Moro killed him immediately after the wishes were granted, discarding him as soon as his usefulness ended.

Everywhere but Nowhere Important

This species demonstrates one of the Frieza Force's most practical strategies: using a conquered race not just as soldiers but as technical staff, medics, and support personnel. Where many subjugated species only appear in combat roles, Cranberry's race filled the infrastructure of the empire, keeping its ships running, its soldiers healed, and its tyrant literally rebuilt from near-death. The variety of their service made them one of the more integrated species in the organization, present in nearly every major Frieza Force operation from the Namek invasion to the Cold family's arrival on Earth to Frieza's resurrection and beyond. Despite this extensive presence, no member of the race ever rose to true prominence; they remained the empire's reliable backbone, useful and expendable in equal measure.
