Massive carnivorous creatures native to Planet Vampa who disguise themselves as parts of the landscape. They serve as both the dominant predators and, through Broly's childhood friend Ba, an emotional anchor in Dragon Ball Super: Broly.
Vampa Beasts are enormous carnivorous animals found on the barren, hostile world of Vampa. Their most remarkable adaptation is camouflage: they disguise themselves as parts of the terrain, blending into the rocky landscape until prey ventures close enough to strike.
Their size is staggering. Broly described his Vampa Beast friend Ba as being larger than Frieza's spaceship, putting them well beyond the scale of most creatures encountered in Dragon Ball. Despite their massive frames, they are less mobile than the smaller Vampa Beetles, which compensates somewhat for the size disparity in the planet's predator hierarchy.
Vampa Beasts exist in a complex ecological relationship with Vampa Beetles. The beetles drain nutrients from the beasts' bodies in a parasitic feeding behavior. However, the beasts in turn consume the beetles, creating a cycle where predator and prey roles constantly shift depending on circumstances and numbers.
The most significant Vampa Beast in the series is Ba, who became young Broly's closest companion during his exile on the hostile planet. Broly trained by dodging Ba's attacks, using the beast's overwhelming power as a sparring partner in a world where no other training opportunities existed.
This friendship ended violently when Paragus shot off Ba's ear with a ray gun, either as punishment or to motivate Broly through rage. Broly salvaged the severed ear and fashioned it into the green pelt he wears around his waist, a memento of his first and perhaps only genuine friendship before meeting Cheelai and Lemo.
That pelt proved remarkably durable. During Broly's catastrophic battle on Earth, it survived intact while the latest-model Frieza Force battle armor he wore was destroyed, a testament to the physical toughness of Vampa Beast hide.
Vampa Beasts represent the top of the food chain on one of the most inhospitable planets in the Dragon Ball universe. Their power is considerable; they can easily kill the already formidable Vampa Beetles, which themselves require a power level far beyond ordinary soldiers to defeat.
Ba's role in Broly's story elevates the Vampa Beasts beyond simple monster-of-the-week status. The creature's friendship with Broly humanizes the legendary Super Saiyan and provides the emotional foundation for his character. The green pelt Broly wears into every subsequent battle is a constant visual reminder that beneath the berserker rage lies someone who once had a friend, and lost him.
