Edrad Liones

Massive and heavily built, Edrad stands two meters tall and dwarfs most opponents. His long black hair is cropped close along the left side, where it turns red, and his eyes are brown. What survives of his Hollow mask is reduced to a pair of eye rings perched over his nose, so that they read almost like spectacles. He leaves the jacket of his standard uniform hanging open, putting the Hollow hole in his chest on display.

During his earlier existence as an Adjuchas he wore red fur, a wide and muscular torso, heavy shoulders, and shaggy legs and hips, a form that closely foreshadowed his released state.

Fiercely proud of his rank, Edrad considers it beneath him to unsheathe his blade against a lowly Shinigami, and he holds open contempt for anyone who treats combat as mere amusement, which is exactly how he reads Ikkaku Madarame. The brutish frame hides a calculating mind; he picks apart an enemy's method in the middle of a fight and quickly grasped that Ikkaku was toying with him. For all his arrogance, a streak of warrior honor runs through him, and he willingly acknowledges his rival's strength and stubborn resolve.

Long before Aizen reached Hueco Mundo, Edrad existed as an Adjuchas-class Menos running with a pack under Shawlong Koufang that also held Di Roy Rinker, Nakeem Grindina, and Yylfordt Granz. Their single aim was to devour as many Hollows as they could and climb toward Vasto Lorde. The group crossed paths with Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez, a panther-formed Adjuchas who tore into Di Roy before he could react, and out of respect they knelt and named him their king. After thousands of kills their growth stalled, so Shawlong asked Grimmjow to consume the pack, both to strengthen him and to keep them from sliding back into Gillians. Grimmjow obliged, swallowing Edrad along with the rest, only for them to rise again at his side as Arrancar.

Restored as Arrancar number 13, Edrad joined Grimmjow's Fracción on the raid into Karakura Town, where they were ordered to cut down anything carrying spiritual pressure. He cornered Ikkaku Madarame and Yumichika Ayasegawa, and after sensing Di Roy's death he opened his fight with Ikkaku. Their duel became a contest of pride: confident in his Hierro and unwilling to draw his sword, Edrad traded blows and taunts until a scar was carved across his head. Deciding to end the game, he released his Resurrección, Volcánica. Fire erupted around him, molten rock hardened into a bulkier body, his mask reshaped into wings, and his arms swelled with exhaust vents that spat flame as he punched.

He battered Ikkaku's Shikai, Hōzukimaru, with ease, but the Shinigami answered with his Bankai, Ryūmon Hōzukimaru, whose blade grew stronger as its crimson mark spread. In one final exchange both fighters crashed to the ground, and as he lay dying Edrad admitted he was glad he had asked for Ikkaku's name.
