Debbie is a Korean woman of medium stature with a lean, athletic build. She keeps her long black hair, which falls to the middle of her back, gathered in a bun, and faint shadows sit beneath her brown eyes.

Her wardrobe shifts with the day, from sharp real-estate business wear to a casual green long-sleeved top. In flashbacks to her younger years, her hair is cut closer, reaching only her shoulders.

Warmth defines Debbie. She is a devoted partner to Nolan and a steady, encouraging presence for Mark, pushing her son to think for himself and follow his own conscience regardless of what others expect. She is also perceptive; with help from Art Rosenbaum and Damien Darkblood she pieced together that Nolan had slaughtered the Guardians of the Globe, though even then she ached to believe some decent explanation existed.

Learning the full truth and watching the devastation of Chicago breaks something in her, dropping her into depression and doubt about everything she thought her life had been. Art's steadying influence helps her find her footing again. Ever the family anchor, she takes in her infant stepson Oliver after his mother dies, names him for her own father, and raises him as her own, staying firm so he can have something like an ordinary childhood while she and Mark teach him compassion and the weight of a hero's choices.

Her romance with the coworker Paul restores a measure of normalcy and confidence. The two begin awkwardly but grow close enough that she trusts him with the family's deepest secrets, and even after they part ways over Paul's sense that their worlds never quite fit, they remain friends and colleagues, with Paul later nudging her toward the courage to travel into space for Oliver. Toward Nolan she stays cold and unyielding, refusing his apologies for two decades of lies and millions of deaths, calling his hopes of fixing everything naive and shallow, and at one point striking him hard enough to hurt her own hand. She keeps him firmly out of her life, proving herself emotionally self-reliant even as she agrees to travel to Talescria only on the condition that she can bring Oliver home.

For roughly twenty years Debbie built a loving home with Nolan and their son Mark, never suspecting the Viltrum Empire behind her husband's heroics. The discovery of who and what Nolan truly is forces her to reexamine the entire marriage, all while she looks after Mark and welcomes the new child, Oliver, into her care. In time she opens a fresh chapter with Paul.

Weeks before the Viltrumite War, Nolan confronts her at the very spot where they had their last honest conversation, offering apologies and remorse. Debbie rejects them outright, naming every wound he inflicted on her, on her sons, and on the people of Earth, and finally facing down the fears he left behind. A real-estate agent by trade and one of the show's most developed figures, she is written as mentally strong and fiercely independent through it all.
